The
'Our Father'
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen. |
The
'Hail Mary'
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen. |
The
'Glory Be'
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without
end.
Amen.

Traditional
Catholic Prayers |
-
from St Anthony's Treasury, a compendium of traditional prayers which
have Ecclesiastical approval. (church approval) |
Excerpt
on the purpose of devotion to the
Holy Face.
"The
principal object of the devotion to the Holy Face is to offer respectful
love and homage to the adorable Face of Jesus, disfigured in the
Passion; to make reparation for blasphemy and the neglect of Sunday;
and lastly, to obtain from God the conversion of sinners.
This
touching devotion, which Our Lord himself seems to have instituted
on the day of his death by imprinting miraculously the traces of
his blood-stained features on the veil of Veronica, has always been
known and practised in the Church.
The
Holy Veil, carefully preserved at Rome in the Vatican Basilica,
receives many honours and marks of confidence. It is exposed several
times a year to the veneration of the Faithful." [ St Anthony's
Treasury, p.184]
|
Prayer
of Pope Pius IX "O
my Jesus, cast upon us a look of mercy;
turn your Face towards each of us, as you did to Veronica:
not that we may see it with our bodily eyes, for this we do not
deserve;
but turn it towards our hearts, so that remembering thee, we may
ever draw from this fountain of strength the vigour necessary to
sustain the combats of life. Amen" [St. Anthony's Treasury,
p.184]

Adorable Face of God-made-Man, I offer you the love of my poor heart,
in union with that of all the Blessed, in reparation for the blasphemies

Prayers |
I
salute you, I adore you, I love you, O sacred Face of Jesus,
saviour of Mankind -
outraged anew by blasphemies,
profaned in the blessed sacrament,
insulted by the abominations committed before you;
And
I offer you through the heart of your Blessed Mother, the worship
of all the Angels and Saints, as sweet incense in your sight;
Humbly
imploring you by virtue of that Look with which you regarded fallen
man and resolved to raise him up to the kiss of Peace with you,
to renew in our souls your image, so disfigured by sin. Amen.
O
Adorable Face of Jesus, so mercifully bowed down on the
Cross on the day of your Passion, for the salvation of the world;
Turn in your pity now towards poor sinners;
Cast upon us a look of compassion,
And receive us with the kiss of Peace. Amen.

Prayer
From the Mass of the Holy Face
Lord
Jesus Christ, whose Holy Face hidden in your Passion
shines like the sun in its splendour,
grant us, who unite ourselves on earth to your sufferings,
to rejoice in heaven in the revelation of your glory. Amen.

Prayer
from website of Association of the Holy Shroud
http://www.holyface.org/
O
Lord Jesus, who by a singular prodigy did leave for us upon the
Holy Shroud the imprint of Your most Holy Body, so cruelly tortured
and put to death for our salvation, together with the Image of Your
most Holy Face, that wicked men by wounds and blows disfigured;
grant us through the merits of your many sufferings, that by venerating
on earth the image of Your Holy Face, upon which the very Angels
long to gaze, we may be made worthy to contemplate it forever in
heaven. Amen.
